David Eyres column: Result all that matters for Clarets

IT will be a first for Sean Dyche today, as he names a team without either Danny Ings or Sam Vokes.
And while that will make life that little bit more difficult at Watford, Burnley should by no means fear them.
It is a bad time to be without other key players Kieran Trippier and Dean Marney too, but we still have enough quality to cross the finishing line and secure promotion to the Premier League.
It doesn’t have to be pretty at Vicarage Road this afternoon, we don’t have to play nice passing football or be gung-ho.
We have played 4-4-2 all season but if we have to revert to 4-5-1, or a version of that, until we get players back then so be it.
There is enough experience in the squad, albeit a small one, to be capable of getting a result against the manager’s old club.
Take Chris Baird, for example. Although he has a wealth of experience he had big shoes to fill coming into the side for Kieran Trippier. They have very different styles but he has done a job.
It is perhaps harder to try to replace Vokes and Ings, with no other recognised senior centre forward after Ashley Barnes.
It was hard for the striker on his own for so long last weekend but he worked tirelessly and I admired his effort.
It’s a shame he didn’t have a strike partner to share the load, but he did well defending from the front.
The onus was on him to score goals but that was limited by the lack of service.
It’s not an ideal situation being without so many players, but we are managing, and maybe there might even be scope to give one or two of the younger players a taste for it. I’m sure they would relish it and rise to the occasion.
As long as we do the basics right there is no reason why we can’t get something this weekend.
You would absolutely take a point now. Watford have been in fine form at home of late and only a stoppage time equaliser for Blackburn Rovers stopped them making it seven home wins on the spin last time out.
With that in mind we need to be able to make life difficult for the opposition, and if any chances come our way hopefully we will take them and bring the Premier League closer still.
