Clarets progress is simply sensational
4:00pm Friday 28th March 2014 in Sport
WHEN March kicked off I never imagined that by the end of it up we could be in with a chance of going top of the league.
Leicester City had what seemed to be an unassailable lead. It just goes to show that appearances can be deceptive, and just how unpredictable the Championship can be.
There is no danger of me sitting on the fence for tomorrow’s game. I had happy times at Leicester – playing in the cup final in 1969 – and I’ve still got a lot of friends there. But I made my home in Burnley and my allegiance is with the Clarets.
It was another good professional performance on Tuesday night to beat Doncaster Rovers, and great credit must go to Junior Stanislas for what was the best game I’ve seen him have.
He was coming in from the wing and getting shots off. He was unlucky with one or two but then took his goal very well.
Junior’s been exciting to watch in recent games.
He has found a level of consistency and was like a different player altogether, and that’s down to the work that the manager has done with him.
Chris Baird looks a good addition to the squad and not a bad deputy for Kieran Trippier. He didn’t put a foot wrong.
To continue the theme of the goals being shared around the team they’ve been coming up for set pieces and offering an extra threat in the box.
Dean Marney will be missed in midfield for the next two games but there are options to replace him.
Scott Arfield is one, but will the manager want to take away from the good work he has done out wide all season?
Just to prove what a big game it is famous Foxes fans Kasabian are at Turf Moor. A pal of mine knows them and has asked me to go and say hello to them.
I must admit I’m not familiar with they're work, but my five grandchildren have been telling me all about them.
But I’m only really bothered about Burnley, and that all-important win.
If we can get to the top on Saturday, I really fancy us to stay there.
