TABLE tennis champs from Blackburn’s Pleckgate High School have done it again.

The school’s table tennis team won the inter-school trophy in 2013 and this year against opposition from QEGS, Darwen Vale and St Wilfrid’s they won all their group matches.

Year 8 students Yaseen Sardar, Kasim Wahwed, Usman Hussain and captain Zeeshan Zaman made up the school’s A team who came first while the school’s B team came third also for the second successive year.

Zeeshan, 13, said: “I have been playing table tennis since primary school. At the start I was looking at the opposition and I thought we were going to lose.

“I was playing the best players from all the other A teams and I beat on 15-0.

“As the tournament went on we all grew in confidence. Last year I also competed but in the Pleckgate B team who came third.”

For Kasim, 13, it was the second time he has been able to hold the trophy aloft as he was playing with the A team last year too.

Kasim said: “Other sports I am not so good at but with table tennis I realised that I had found something that I am good at and it is good for me.”

Zeeshan added: “you have to build up your stamina to play table tennis because when the opponent smashes the ball you can find yourself having to run very quickly.”
