Lancashire Telegraph: New Burnley signing Chris Baird New Burnley signing Chris Baird

BURNLEY have this afternoon confirmed the signing of defender Chris Baird until the end of the season, subject to FA and Football League approval.

The Northern Ireland international has joined the Clarets on a free transfer having been without a club since leaving Reading in January.

The 32-year-old former Southampton and Fulham player has penned a two-month contract and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's game at Charlton Athletic.

Baird can play both in defence and central midfield.

Good signing, with Trippier possibly out for 2 weeks, has the experience needed.

What a signing!
I don't come on here very often but I had to respond to the news - a very, very clever piece of business....
I'm sure most football supporters were expecting a replacement for Vokes or Barnes up front....... very clever!

I wonder if the trolls that come on the Blackburn pages will come on here to slate it being a freebie, reject of Reading?! (as they do with all our signings)

Good signing for you guys to be fair, he'll bring you some experience in an area where you could probably do with it!

Well let's wait and see. we've had very few injuries this season, but now at a crucial stage this happens. Two of our top players, and Dean Marney only one booking away from a two match ban.In my opinion, if possible,I would try to add a proven striker, and midfield player as well,no penny pinching now, make sure every avenue is covered to see us over the line.
