Bowyer hails Blackburn Rovers' response
GARY Bowyer hailed a ‘magnificent response’ as Blackburn Rovers returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Rovers, struggling for confidence following a three-match losing run, lost Jason Lowe and Rudy Gestede to injury in an eventful first half which ended even after the Terriers cancelled out hat-trick hero Jordan Rhodes’ early opener.
But that did not stop Bowyer’s spirited side, led by stand-in skipper Rhodes and Craig Conway, from battling back after the break to claim three points.
Rovers boss Bowyer said: “The response from the lads was magnificent. We started the game very well, we were passing it around and made Huddersfield change their shape because the way we were playing.
“So to lose two lads to injuries and then for them to equalise made it a tall order for us and we needed half time. We started the second half slowly but we withstood that, had a good go and produced some magnificent finishing.”
Gestede was knocked unconscious following an aerial challenge but was later given the all clear.
“Rudy is out of hospital and all the scans are clear, which is great news,” said Bowyer, who revealed Lowe left the John Smith’s Stadium wearing a protective boot after injuring his ankle.
