KIERAN Trippier has told Burnley to keep pushing for the Premier League, and not let beating bitter rivals Blackburn Rovers be the highlight of their season.

The right back admitted he revelled in last weekend’s celebrations, after goals from Jason Shackell and Danny Ings secured a first derby win for the Clarets since 1979.

Born in nearby Bury, and having a network of friends in the East Lancashire area after making his move to Turf Moor from Manchester City in 2011, Trippier appreciates the strong sense of rivalry arguably better than most of his team-mates.

“I really enjoyed Sunday. Personally, after the amount of stick I got there last year, it was good to get one over on them,” he said.

But with Burnley opening up an eight-point gap in second place, the 23-year-old knows there are more big games to come as the Clarets bid to secure automatic promotion and a second shot at the top flight in four years.

“That game was a big moment for the club and the fans,” Trippier added. “But we’ve got to let that go now and concentrate on the games ahead of us.

“We can see what happens at the end of the season and we can look back on some of the games we’ve played, not just Blackburn.

“Getting focus back on the games is what the gaffer is there for, he told us that’s gone now and we need to concentrate on a game at a time.”

The Clarets were held to a 3-3 draw in their follow-up game at Birmingham on Wednesday, where they took the lead three times and were denied a late win by Federico Macheda’s controversial equaliser.

Trippier admitted that, while it could prove a valuable point come the end of the season, there were a number of frustrations at St Andrew’s.

But he insists they are ready to take them out on Leeds United this afternoon, and stop Brian McDermott’s side from bouncing back from two heavy home defeats.

“Obviously it’s strange times for Leeds. I was at home on Saturday watching their results come through as they got beat 5-1 and got another four past them the other day. But they’ll be coming to try and get something – another of our big rivals,” warned Trippier, one of three ever-presents this season alongside captain Jason Shackell and striker Sam Vokes.

“It’s never nice to concede so many goals and you want to come out of that spell. They’ll want to put us on the back foot but we’ll pressure them hard from minute one to get a result.

“They’re another of our big rivals and they’ll be coming to Turf Moor to try to get something out of the game, but we’ll be prepared and ready to go hard to get the three points.

“We’ve had some bigger crowds recently and Leeds will be bringing a number of fans who will be backing them to try to get a result.

“But hopefully we can get a big turn-out on our behalf and get the three points.”

And Trippier has vowed to replicate Michael Duff’s goal celebration dance, after setting up the defender to score his first of the season at Birmingham on Wednesday, if he is on the mark himself against Leeds United this afternoon.

The former England under 21 international said: “It was a great header from Michael Duff. We were talking about it before the game and saying, ‘You’re due a goal, Duffo.’ “His last one was Boxing Day 2012 and he said, ‘I’m overdue one.’ “I’m just happy he got one and he deserves it with the way he’s been playing.

“He got a little bit of banter for his celebration.

“He did it again for us and showed us how to do it. If I score I’ll do it.”
