BAXENDEN Primary School demonstrated poise and power, grace and graft on the floor and vault to book a place in the county gymnastics finals.

The school’s talented team of gymnasts were head over heels after they were announced Hyndburn’s best.

Baxenden will now progress to represent the borough in the Level Three School Games event that takes place in Blackpool in July.

A total of 10 teams from across the borough – the best turn out in years – took part in the annual primary school event which was held at Hollins High in Accrington.

And Baxenden enjoyed both team and invidual glory.

For while they were named overall champions, Maddison Hull won the vault while team-mate Madison Hayes came second in the floor.

Thea from Brookside came first in the floor.

Baxenden took first place ahead of runners-up Peel Park while St Marys Oswaldtwistle were third.

“This was the best attended gymnastics competition that has occurred for Hyndburn schools for many years with 10 schools taking part in both the team and individual competition,” said School Games Organiser Jane Johnson.

“Special mention must go to Hyndburn Park who had obviously been working extremely hard on their routines.

Schools that took part were: All Saints, Peel Park, Baxenden, Rishton Methodist, Hyndburn Park,Green Howarth, Benjamin Hargreaves, Brookside, St Johns Great Harwood,St Marys Oswaldtwistle
