WHO can stop Rishton United's march to the Blackburn Combination Premier League title as rivals Blackburn United slipped up again.
Rishton steamrollered strugglers Greenfield 11-2 – while long time leaders Blackburn suffered another title blip, going down 1-0 to Hole I'th Wall. It leaves Rishton with three games in hand on United, and with a far superior goal difference, the title is surely theirs for the taking now.
Rock-bottom Islington picked up a valuable point, drawing 1-1 at Vauxhall Inn, but Blackburn Olympic remain in trouble at the foot of the table after a crushing 5-0 home defeat to Anchor.
Clifton remain in the bottom three following a 3-1 home defeat to Feildens Arms.
In the Second Division, IMO climbed into third spot, firing a 5-2 win at Blackburn United while The Lion and Alexandra Hotel shared eight goals in a 4-4 thriller.
In the Cotton Cup (Group B) Wellington Inn defeated Clayton Park 2-0, while in Group C Blackburn Eagles went down 2-1 at home to Whalley Range.
