BLACKBURN Rovers go into Tuesday night’s Under 21s Premier League trip to Fulham looking to make it back-to-back wins following a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United on Monday night.

And boss Eric Kinder believes his side are now moving in the right direction following an impressive performance at Ewood Park.

He said: “The young players are now taking on board what we are asking of them and telling them to do – and when they believe in that they get their rewards.”

Paulo Jorge broke the deadlock on Monday in the 12th minute with a 20-yard strike before Newcastle drew level on the half-hour mark when Rolando Aarons raced clear and fired past Simon Eastwood.

But Rovers got the winning goal their efforts merited 10 minutes into the second half when Jordan Preston turned the ball home from close range.

It rounded off a memorable day for the Scotland U19s international striker having earlier passed his driving test.

Kinder said of his players: “I’m delighted with them, I thought they stuck to the game plan, they worked extremely hard out of possession and regained possession well.

“In the first half I thought we were a bit sloppy with our passing but it is an improvement.

“It is very pleasing because it has been a difficult season for us.

“So we got our rewards tonight.”
