THE annual Burnley Schools Football Festival was held at Turf Moor indoor pitch recently – and it was a tournament of two halves!

For a total of 150 pupils from primary schools across the borough too part in an event that was split in to a morning session and an afternoon session.

Wellfield Primary School underlined their footballing pedigree by winning the morning tournament. It follows the success the school enjoyed back in November when it one the Year 5/6 competition.

Wellfield completed their football double after beating Heasandford 2-1 in the final.

The afternoon session was won by Worsthorne who ran out convincing 4-1 winners against St Leonard’s.

Helen Tyson, school games organiser for Burnley School Sport Partnership was delighted with another successful event.

“There were about 150 children from schools from Burnley who took part and it was a big success,” she said. “We would like to thank Steve Obertelli at Burnley Football Club’s Clarets in the Community for organising the event.”
