Stephen Lowe: Magic 50 points may not be enough
LEAGUE Two is a very strange place to be this year, with different teams continuing to upset the odds each week.
The relegation scrap starts with York – up in 10th place in the league on 43 points but only six points above the Reds, who are currently third bottom with 37 vital points gained.
There was a lot of talk on the internet this week about how many points would be needed for survival and the general consensus was that the magic 50 points may not be enough this year. The Reds need to bounce back from the injustice of the last two away fixtures and regain the momentum we had built up just a couple of weeks ago. Tom Aldred was spitting blood after the final whistle on Saturday thanks to a cut mouth sustained by an elbow from a Burton player.
It is fair to say that we have not had the rub of the green with officials lately but Tom epitomises the never say die attitude of the squad. Burton started the game like a steam train and if it had not been for a fantastic Stanley defensive display they could have been three up within the first 30 minutes. As it was we pulled it back, only to lose to a dubious penalty decision.
We have seven more matches in March, with four of them at the Store First Stadium. If we are to climb the table then we need to make home advantage count.
