FEILDENS Arms blew the Blackburn Combination Premier Division title race wide open, shocking long-time leaders Blackburn United 2-1.

It was only United's second defeat of the campaign, but suddenly they are looking over their shoulders as red-hot Rishton United hit top form.

Rishton's relentless run saw them overcome Wellington Inn 4-2 and close the gap at the summit to four points.

Rishton, who have won ten of their eleven league starts and have three games in hand over the leaders, must fancy their chances of overhauling United now.

At the other end of the table, Clifton remain deep in relegation trouble, and their prospects of avoiding the drop were damaged further by a home reverse to Vauxhall Inn.

Greenfield remain in the bottom two though after a 4-0 thrashing at Blackburn Olympic, who moved out of the bottom three.

Anchor defeated Hole I'Th Wall by the same scoreline.

In the Second Division, The Ivy Veterans remain firmly in the title hunt after a 2-0 win at IMO.

Whalley Range moved into third spot thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win at Rishton United Reerves, but The Lion were beaten again, this time 4-1 at home by strugglers Worth Avenue. In the Cotton Cup Group Stage, Blackburn Eagles defeated Blackburn United Reserves 6-4, while Clayton Park eased to victory as they brushed past Islington 3-0.
