LEE Molyneux says Accrington Stanley have kick-started his career for a second time, after having his loan deal from Crewe Alexandra extended for the full 93-day allowance.

The wide man rejoined the Reds for an initial 28 days, after struggling to establish himself in the Railwaymen’s line-up since his summer move.

Molyneux has thanked Stanley fans, staff and team-mates for restoring his confidence, after admitting he endured a tough time at Gresty Road.

“As I’ve said before it was tough to leave Accrington. It was never anything financial, it was a case of stepping up to try to prove myself in that league,” he said.

“It was for my career and I still think I’m good enough to succeed in that league.

“For reasons I don’t know it hasn’t worked out. It’s frustrating because the manager brought me in and I feel like I haven’t been a fair crack at it.

“That’s just football sometimes.

“You’ve just got to go again, get games and take it from there.”

Molyneux, who scored the goal which secured survival for Stanley in the penultimate game of last season, added: “Confidence-wise it’s brilliant knowing that the manager and the staff are backing me.

“I’ve got a good rapport with the fans and they know that I love being at Accrington, they love me being here and over the next few weeks until the end of the season I can score some more goals and keep improving my performances.

“I feel settled again now. Playing games is the most important thing for me but especially being at Accy with your mates.

“They’re not just like team-mates or work colleagues, I’ve got genuine friends here. It’s good and hopefully I can keep improving until the end of the season.”

Molyneux, who celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday, is set to start against Portsmouth in the Reds’ re-arranged game at Fratton Park tonight.

His loan extension means he will remain with Stanley up to and including the penultimate game of this term. But he admitted he has not looked beyond that.

“I’m not thinking about next year. I just want to play as many games for Accrington, make sure we stay safe and push up that league and in the summer we have time off so I’m sure something will get sorted,” he said.

“I’m just thinking about trying to play well in each game.

“When you’re in and out it’s difficult. Mentally it’s draining and you don’t know whether you’re coming or going.

“But the main thing is to enjoy playing football again. That has given me more confidence.”
