Cabuchon has earned his rise in grade and deserves to take his chance in the 32Red Free £10 Bonus Handicap at Lingfield.

The David Evans-trained seven-year-old has risen to a career-high mark of 61 but appears to be in the form of his life.

Since the turn of the year he has finished second to Eye Of The Tiger, one of the famous plot horses that got the bookmakers so excited last month.

He was then narrowly beaten at Kempton by less than a length and despite a 2lb rise he was able to win for the first time since September back at Lingfield.

Those three runs were at class six level and while this is a class five it means that he can race off bottom weight which may aid his cause.

Crucially, those three efforts all came with Sean Leavy in the saddle and he is on top once again.

The rest of the card looks extremely tricky from a punting perspective.

One who may be worth supporting, however, is the Charlie Hills-trained newcomer Ermine Ruby in the Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes.

She is a half-sister to the Group One-winning sprinter Maarek and related to winners over a mile which might suggest why she starts her life over seven furlongs.

Her dam Ruby Rocket was a Listed winning juvenile, while her sire, Cape Cross, has a list as long as your arm with classy performers on it, including Sea The Stars and Ouija Board.

Of those that have run nothing has yet shown any meaningful form, so she will not have to be a superstar to make a winning debut.

Kolonel Kirkup was no mug on the level and must have a decent chance of taking top honours at Catterick.

Trainer Michael Dods won a Thirsk maiden with him in August 2012 but he barely threatened last summer and looked in the grip of the handicapper.

That was surprising as he looked to have a good future ahead of him when fourth on his first outing last May off 74 yet by the end of the campaign he was down to 60 and still not threatening.

On his hurdling debut he was fourth behind the useful Handiwork, albeit beaten a long way, but he shaped much better at Catterick last month when second to a John Ferguson hotpot, even though he was flattered by the winning margin of just over a length.

He faces nothing of that class in the yorkshireoutdoors.co.uk Adventure Activities Maiden Hurdle.

Dursey Sound looks a worthy ally in the Cheltenham Preview Evening 28th February Novices’ Chase.

Having won on his chasing debut at Bangor he then unseated Richie McLernon at Market Rasen and Tony McCoy at Fakenham.

Next time out a clear round was needed and while that was achieved at this venue, he was no match at all for the smart Corrin Wood.

There is no disgrace in that, though, given Donald McCain’s grey is one of the best home hopes for the RSA Chase.

Bit Of A Jig has made a promising start to his chasing career and his debut second at Newcastle was followed by an easy enough win at Sedgefield.

That was a real stamina test so he should have no trouble staying the three and a quarter miles of the Cheltenham Preview Evening 28th February Novices’ Chase.

Destroyer Deployed finally looks like fulfilling his early promise after making a winning chasing debut at Fakenham and should follow up in the Rutland Water Novices’ Chase at Leicester.

Second to Cheltenian in the Champion Bumper of 2011, he became disappointing over hurdles.

With his attention switched to the bigger obstacles earlier this month he looked much more the finished article and could prove pretty smart in this sphere.
