DAILY SPORT DEBATE: Is there too much money in football?

First published in Sport

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has agreed a new five-and-a-half year contract worth up to £300,000 a week...and that is quite simply staggering.

There can be no-one who deserves that kind of money and such contracts are a slap in the face for the fans who can barely afford the rising cost of a ticket to see their heroes.

Surely it is time for the football authorities to put a cap on these wages before the game becomes even more of a laughing stock.

It is madness.
