SEAN Dyche has called for fans to get behind Burnley’s promotion push and bring the noise – and numbers – to Turf Moor The Clarets celebrated a new post-war record of 19 league games unbeaten at home, a run which stretches back to March last year.

But their impressive Turf form has yet to be reflected in attendances.

Burnley are set for a crowd boost today, with the visit of fifth-placed Nottingham Forest and an anticipated away following of more than 2,000 added to increased home support.

And manager Dyche hopes the Clarets’ faithful can have an influence in enhancing his side’s position in the top two.

“If we want to take it further, the fans can play a part in that,” said the Burnley boss.

“I was told we’re about the sixth highest in terms of away fans, which is incredible for a club our size against some of the well supported clubs.

“If we can get more in Turf Moor, the more the merrier. We’ve made it a tough place to come, even more so if we’re there in more numbers. We want to add to them.”

And Dyche insisted the idea of fans providing a ‘12th man’ cannot be underestimated.

“I think there’s a connection, the fans have come to believe in the players which is fantastic and we want to continue it and build it,” he said.

“I’ve mentioned it since day one, it’s a one club mentality. When you’ve got fans in line with what the players are giving for the club, you can’t guarantee the outcome, you can’t guarantee a win but you can show the intent to win and fans will take that as a marker, that real energy and desire to win a football match.

“Hopefully the quality of performance and goals will help you win that match.”

He added: “The way we’ve worked, the energy comes from what we do on a daily basis. It’s enhanced by performances and wins but there’s been a great belief in what the players have been looking to do when they’re on the training ground and that’s what fans don’t get to see.

“They don’t get to see the amount of planning and effort and work that goes in from the staff and the players. That’s a given for us, now it’s about taking that consistently into games. We’ve done that well and there’s a great chance to do that again.

“All the planning and preparation goes into getting the results. You train and give details towards a game in order to give them the best chance to perform, which they’ve done really well.

“Now we’ve got to continue to do that and keep building.”
