A TOTAL of 22 primary teams competed in the Pendle Schools sportshall athletics event culminating with a final involving the top six schools.

Pupils took part in 10 different running, jumping and throwing events in the final held at Pendle Vale College.

Students from Pendle Vale College and Fishermore High School helped officiate the event.

Competition, as it had been throughout the event, was fierce and the title was not decided until the last two races of the evening.

And it was Laneshawbridge who continued their winning run from last year and were, once again, crowned champions.

They will represent Pendle at the Sainsburys Lancashire Schools Games in Thornton Cleveleys tomorrow.

Blacko always do well for a small school and will go forward to represent Pendle for small schools on the same day in Thornton Cleveleys.

Meanwhile, the Pendle Schools Indoor Athletics Championships have also been staged.

Once again, Pendle Vale College hosted the event with Year Seven and Year Eight girls and boys taking place.

The four winning teams will also make the trip to Thornton Cleveleys for the Lancashire County Sainsburys School Games Indoor Athletic Championships to be held tomorrow.

The Year Seven girls winner was not decided until the very last race of the competition.

Neil Stewart, the Pendle School Games Organiser, who organised the event for Pendle secondary schools said: “It was great that all competitions were so close.

“There is always a good atmosphere at these events.

“I would like to thank students from Pendle Vale College, Central Pendle Academy and Fishermore who officiated the events.

“Good luck to Fishermore, Park and Pendle Vale teams in the finals.”
