EAST Lancashire’s Modern Penathlon ace Samantha Murray finished 18th in the International Indoor Competition in Hungary despite clinching victory in the swim section of the competition.
Murray, a silver medalist at the London 2012 Olympics, enjoyed a strong swim to top the leaderboard in that event and having already secured a top 10 finish in the fencing where she placed eighth, the Clitheroe star will have had designs on a top 10 finish.
But the 24-year-old suffered in the riding where she could only finish 37th and a poor finish in the combined run/shoot, where she was 43rd, left her 18th overall in an event won by the host nation’s Sarolta Kovacs.
