LAURA Massaro is looking to reach her third successive Cleveland Classic final and maintain her impressive record in the competition.

The world number two from Chorley, winner in 2011, is hoping to set up a semi final clash with either Alison Waters or Omneya Abdel Kawy tomorrow.

But Massaro, who plays Annie Au in quarter finals, was given a real scare in the first round by Ireland’s Madeline Perry.

The world number seven pushed Massaro all the way in a match that went to five games.

Perry won an incredible first game 17-15 and after Massaro won the second 11-4 to level the match, the Irish ace took the third 11-6.

But Massaro showed her superiority by winning the fourth and fifth games, both 11-5, to seal victory.

She said: “I am just happy to get through that match as it was a tough first round for me. Madeline is a tough competitor.”
