BLACKBURN Harriers pole vault star Holly Bleasdale was victorious at Saturday’s Glasgow International Match as she continues her comeback from injury.

Bleasdale cleared 4.62m to take first place on her return following back and Achilles injuries that forced her out of last year’s World Championships.

The 22-year-old said: “It’s great to be back. To be back competing and doing the thing I love the most is just the best feeling really.

“I didn’t jump the best out there, but I enjoyed it. There’s a few things we can tweak and work on now because I felt a bit rusty.

“But, first competition after coming back from warm weather camp, I’m in a really good place and looking forward to the rest of indoors.”

The World Indoor Championships take place in March before the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships in August during the outdoor season.

Twenty-year-old Scot Laura Muir starred in Glasgow with a bold triumph in the 800m. Muir broke the Scottish record with a mature and assertive display, which earned her the award for the Sainsbury’s performance of the day.

The student’s victory was one of five Scottish wins among the 22 events, giving 5,000 fans in the Emirates Arena plenty to cheer, despite their team finishing bottom of the four-team tournament.

The Great Britain and Northern Ireland team claimed victory in both 4x400m relay events, seeing them finish three points behind the Commonwealth team and ahead of the United States.

Asha Philip and James Dasaolu won the 60m sprints.
