A SQUAD of 20 Burnley Bobcats swimmers competed in the City of Derby Level 1 meet at Ponds Forge Sheffield and put in some great performances to finish 17th out of the 37 clubs competing.

Lily-Grace Duckworth (10 yrs) competed for the first time at a Level 1 meet and swam some excellent races in the girls age 9/12 years age group category.

She qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley and won a bronze medal, followed by a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle event.

She also competed in the Open age group of the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and the 200m backstroke events, achieving some personal bests and being ranked in the top three in her age group.

Elliot Norman (12) reached the final of the boys 9/12 yrs 200m Individual Medley and came away with a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke event.

He also competed in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle events.

Joshua Lambert (14) won a bronze medal in his age group of the 100m butterfly and achieved personal bests in his other events, 200m Individual Medley, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Other swimmers taking part in numerous events over the weekend were William Beaven, Robert Bryce, Tom Hamer, William Murray, Ben Nutter, Harry Pilkington, Madison Beswick, Lucy Cole, Emma Fothergill, Kerry Holding, Colette Meade, Erica Minozzi, Katie Rennolds, Ella Sheridan, Mia Sheridan, Ellie Taylor and Grace Pickles, who all put in great performances and achieved some personal bests.

Head coach, Mike Robinson said: “This was a very competitive Level 1 meet, which shows the ability of the swimmers who competed. “They all gained experience at swimming in a National pool with some great personal bests recorded.”
