DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: How important is it for Blackburn Rovers to retain Dann?

First published in Sport

BLACKBURN Rovers skipper Scott Dann is attracting interest from Norwich City and Crystal Palace as the transfer window draws to a close this week.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer knows he has to reduce the wage bill as the club prepare to fall in line with the Championship’s new financial fair play regulations, which could present them with a dilemma if they receive an acceptable offer for Dann.

How important is it for Rovers to retain Dann, or should they let him go if the money is right?

Dann is worth his place in our team. However, he's definitely not worth what we are reported to be paying him. If we can get him off the payroll and pick up a reasonable transfer fee in the process, then I think we should do it as I feel confident that Bowyer will be able to find us a good replacement who does give us value for money. We've seen some fantastic centre halves at Rovers in the not too distant past - eg Hendry, Berg, Short, Samba, Nelsen but Dann comes nowhere near that list.

Everyone has their price. Must be good centre halts languishing in PL reserve sides. Look how we picked up Tony Gale.

If money was no object then you'd keep him rather than disturb a working partnership with Hanley. However, money is an issue and like others say above there are many centre halves around of similar quality so may as well pick up a fee for him now while he's saleable.

They'll have to let him go if the fee is anything like as his wages need to be off the books. Bit of a shame to see him go but that said he makes stupid mistakes out of the blue and does have a record of taking Premiership Clubs down! Beware Norwich and Palace!!

For the purposes of bumping the fee he is crucial to Rovers promotion push. Otherwise: step up Matt Kilgallon the position is yours to lose.

He's more like Christian Daily/Darren Peacock calibre.
