DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: What is the valuation of Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes?

Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp

First published in Sport
Last updated

HARRY Redknapp yesterday claimed that Jordan Rhodes is out of QPR’s price range because Blackburn Rovers would want ‘£8m or £9m’ for the striker.

Even that estimate seems low, however, for a forward who has been comfortably Rovers’ best player since arriving from Huddersfield Town for £8m in August 2012.

Rovers have no intention of selling Rhodes before transfer window closes on January 31, but what should he be worth in the current market?

1. Top scorer in League one for Huddersfield and in order to get him we had to pay 8m
2. He is now a 30 goal a season man in Championship - our main man and without his goals god knows where we would be.
He is one of the top strikers in the league in lets be honest a team that doesn't create a hatful of chances.
3. You have to ask double or you should not be in the business.
4. However the extant on that is what clauses does he have in his contract.

As I have said before, you paid over the odds for him, he was worth 4-5 million tops and now he has proven his worth in the championship he's worth in the region of 8 million now. You understandably want 10-12 million for him but you're not gonna get that unless he's banging in 40 a season in the championship.

And deluded clowns like Jackoffmetickler need to beam down to planet reality if he thinks you gonna get anywhere asking for 16 million for him.

What did Wilfred Zaha do to deserve to cost £15m? Goal scorers are hard to come by.

You look at it this way. We sell Rhodes to a championship rival and the likelyhood is we turn our chances of promotion from slim to none.. while boosting theirs. If promoted that team gets a minimum of £90m if they finish bottom of the Premier League next year.

It doesnt take a genius to work out that Rhodes is worth a fortune to us & anyone in the championship that wants to try & buy him and £8m would be a joke at this stage.

Pointless question because he isn't for sale. Venkys have the ability to resist any bid they want to because they have deep pockets. FFP rules cannot force any club to sell anyone they don't want to. The local newspaper is doing its best to cause trouble and unsettle people.

How long until we have a 'Daily Sports Debate' about how much Danny Ings is worth? The difference with him being that he is for sale, Burnley cannot resist bids, and for a much lower fee and wages than it would take to get Rhodes. Not to mention his contract expires in less than 18 months.

Point me in the direction of the note that says non Blackburn fans aren't allowed to comment on Blackburn related stories?

I agree his value has appreciated since we bought him, however we paid well over the odds for him. He is one of the best goal scorers in the division but unproven at a higher level, so I would say he must be worth around £8m now.

I think Manchester Untied should buy him for £25 million. What with floods of tears round Trafford and desperate 999 calls from Crumpsall to the emergency services by a bloke called Moyes they really do need someone who can put the ball in the net and who isn’t crocked or too fat.
