RAMSBOTTOM United picked up their biggest win since beating Atherton LR 9-1 back in December 2006 with a scintillating display that pushed aside local rivals Radcliffe Borough in emphatic style.
Phil Dean bagged a hat-trick with Lee Gaskell scoring twice while Grant Spencer, Jordan Hulme and Billy Priestley all found the target. It was Spencer who opened the scoring with an unstoppable drive in the sixth minute before Gaskell made it 2-0 in the 16th, nodding home a cross from Hulme.
Gaskell scored his second, again a header, 10 minutes later after Spencer’s drive had been blocked. And two futher goals in the lead up to half time settle the match. First Spencer’s deep cross picked out Hulme who had the simplest of tasks to head home then Dean grabbed his first of the game, Grant Shenton releasing the striker to race through and score.
It was 6-0 seven minutes after the restart when Spencer was again the provider, crossing for Priestley to head home.
Dean then weighed in with two late strikes to complete his hat-trick for the rampant Rams who, with 68 goals from 24 games, are the highest scorers in the division.
