Accrington Stanley fined over Beattie qualifications

Lancashire Telegraph: James Beattie James Beattie

ACCRINGTON Stanley have been fined £5,000 for appointing manager James Beattie before he had the relevant coaching qualifications – and will have to pay £15,000 more if he does not complete a course by May 1.

Managers in League One and League Two have to hold a UEFA B licence and clubs now face a fine if they appoint someone who does not hold the badge.

Beattie was appointed in May 2013 and it was found at a Football Disciplinary Commission hearing this month that the former England striker had still not attended a course or confirmed a place on a future course.

It is understood that Beattie has now made moves to earn the qualification by May 1, however.

That would see Stanley only have to pay a fine of £5,000 rather than £20,000.

Does that mean that Kean had all the necessary qualifications? If so they are obviously not worth the paper they are printed on!

strange decision by the FA against Stanley, you only have to think back to Roy Keane at Sundeland and Garath Southgate at Middlesbourgh the FA are now both had no qualifcations when appointed, they were aloud to take there badges in the summer,NO FNES,Jame Beatie has had no time since being appointed to go on courses, the FA have now given him untill May 1st to get is Badges, from now untll May 1st is crucial for the club, and James, what is he going to learn from now untill May 1st that he do not already know to make him a better Manager,NOTHING,he will be assesed by people who have never been in Football,if it is important for the badges let him take it in the summer,by the FA thinking of no badge the team should fail,so let see what happens with the team from now untill May 1st,it is more than harsh on the club

Seems to depend who you are as to whether the FA decide to apply the rules or not, if your Premier League (Tim Sherwood anyone??) it's ok not to have the necessary paperwork.
That said, the people behind the scenes at Stanley should have made sure all the i's were dotted & the t's were crossed cos if anyone is gonna have the book thrown at them it'll be Stanley - sure as eggs is eggs - and we shouldn't provide them with any ammunition to make it easy for them to do so
