A FORMER Bury woman of the year who was recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list was congratulated at a public meeting.

Yvonne Moore, of Heycroft, Whitefield, was given special recognition at the Whitefield and Unsworth Township Forum meeting at Elms Community Centre in Green Lane, Whitefield, last week.

Mrs Moore, aged 72, was presented with a bouquet of flowers and given a round of applause.

Speaking at the meeting, deputy mayor Cllr Joan Grimshaw said: “Thank you very, very much for what you’ve done Yvonne. Well done.”

After suffering from breast cancer 12 years ago, Mrs Moore has worked tirelessly in various community projects, and was made Bury Woman of the year in 2009.

She founded Old Hall Park Residents Association 10 years ago, and is also a Home Watch co-ordinator, member of the Whitefield local area partnership, and honarary secretary of Bury Metro Community Twinning Association.
