NEWBURY is the feature meeting of today’s racing and they begin with a Juvenile Hurdle which can go to recent C&D winner Dawalan (12.50) representing the powerful Nicky Henderson/Barry Geraghty combination.

The grey was well held on his hurdles debut before putting that experience to good use when landing the odds here last month on soft ground.

The race often throws up an above average juvenile including the ill-fated Detroit City who took this before going on to land the Triumph Hurdle back in 2006.

This will certainly not be a cakewalk for the selection given there a number of interesting hurdling debutants from the flat who had, arguably, better form on the level than the Henderson charge.

Carry On Sydney was a winner at Newbury as a juvenile for Richard Hannon and has joined a jumps yard, that of Oliver Sherwood, in excellent form and it showed be noted if there is market support for the son of Notnowcato. I’m not convinced likely favourite Dark Lover is a natural over fences and I just favour Brick Red (1.20) in receipt of 4lbs for Venetia Williams; the selection isn’t the biggest but he jumped well enough at Plumpton on his chase debut and will love the soft ground.

This isn’t the best novice chase seen at the track and, although I think the front two in the market are vulnerable, the Williams runner gets the vote.
