BLACKBURN Combination Premier Division title favourites Blackburn United suffered their first league defeat of the campaign, crashing 5-2 at home to Feildens Arms.

United were running away with the championship, but this shock defeat saw Wellington Inn close the gap on top dogs United, who had only leaked five goals in league action ahead of last weekend's shock reverse.

Second placed Wellington Inn certainly made no mistake, crushing Anchor 6-1.

There was a real thriller in the basement battle between Clifton and Islington, with Clifton edging out the bottom club 6-5.

Vauxhall Inn also enjoyed a goals bonanza, thrashing strugglers Greenfield 8-2.

The game between Hole I'Th Wall and Rishton United was postponed.

In the Second Division, unbeaten leaders Clayton Park remain out in front after a 5-2 win over The Lion.

The Ivy Veterans are gunning for promotion too and a 4-1 victory over IMO saw them bolster second spot.

Blackburn Eagles remain the only side in the two divisions without a league win and they suffered further embarrassment, going down 9-2 to Alexandra Hotel.

Strugglers Worth Avenue also suffered a heavy defeat, crashing 6-3 at home to Blackburn United Reserves.
