Paul Robinson proves his worth

Lancashire Telegraph: Paul Robinson Paul Robinson

RIVAL managers Gary Bowyer and Paul Dickov joined a singer from the world’s biggest boy band in praising fit-again Paul Robinson for the vital role he played in Blackburn Rovers’ ‘massive’ 1-0 win over Doncaster.

Former England number one Robinson made a stunning injury-time double save to ensure Gary Bowyer’s play-off pushing side held on to the lead given to them by Rudy Gestede.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “We were outstanding first half and should have been two or three up.

“The way we defended was magnificent and right at the death Robbo pulled off a world-class save.

“His experience is massive to us and he will just get better and better.”

Doncaster boss and former Rovers striker Dickov said: “Paul Robinson showed why he’s an England international with the two saves at the end.

“The first one was special – I’ve just seen it again and it was top class.

“The difference is we’ve made one mistake, and been punished, and Paul Robinson.”

Robinson also impressed One Direction star Louis Tomlinson who took advantage of a break from the multi-million selling group’s schedule to watch his beloved Doncaster in action at Ewood Park.

Tomlinson, left, said: “I think the second half was promising and we were really unlucky at the end.

“The Blackburn goalkeeper pulled out a great save.”

Has come back just in time to help the team consolidate their improvement. Over the next few matches he can help get us into a playoff position and hopefully keep us there.

Welcome back, Paul. Definitely our No. 1 - and arguably the best in the championship. Without doubt worth quite a few points in the next four months - and a massive confidence boost to our back four..

Our two young keepers can learn an awful lot from Robbo with regards to commanding the area and controlling the defence, there aren't many better and hearing him bellow out instructions is like music to my ears, and he proved with those two saves in extra time on Saturday that his fitness and concentration are spot on.

The only fly in the ointment is that he is one of our bigger earners and good experienced keepers are worth their weight in gold.

just a wild thought, Kaz, but it could have been that Paul Dickov and Doncaster, who are fighting for their lives, threw everything into a game plan that stifled us a bit, particularly as our main aim would have been to hold on to the lead?
I wasnt actually at the game, but apparently they had 11 players, just like us
