DUNDEE United have no intention of extending the loan of David Goodwillie.

But the out-of-favour Blackburn Rovers forward could yet find himself a new club before the transfer window closes after attracting interest from outfits north and south of the border.

Goodwillie’s six-month loan deal runs out after their Scottish Premiership clash at Inverness Caledonian Thistle today.

The three-capped Scotland international will go into that game on the back of one his best performances since rejoining the Tannadice Park outfit.

Goodwillie, who left United to make a £2m move to Rovers in August 2011, stepped off the bench to score one goal and set up the other in the 2-2 home draw with Hibernian on Sunday.

His cameo appearance, however, has not convinced United boss Jackie McNamara to retain his services.

Goodwillie (pictured right) has netted just six goals in 22 games for McNamara’s side, who have been paying around half of his estimated £8,000 per week wages.

But he could yet be offered a chance to stay in the Scottish top flight by Aberdeen or St Johnstone. Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, who played alongside Goodwillie in his first spell at United, has so far remained tight-lipped.

But McInnes’ number two at the Dons, Tony Docherty, is a big admirer of Goodwillie’s having brought him through the United youth system.

English League One outfits Oldham and Notts County are also interested in signing the 24-year-old on loan.

Goodwillie’s last appearance for Rovers was the 1-1 draw at Birmingham City on the final day of last season.

He has made just 10 starts for the club and an additional 24 appearances off the bench, scoring five goals.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said: “The whole idea of him going out on loan was to get some games and get some goals.

“He’s done that a little bit at Dundee United but not enough that he would have liked, we would have liked or Dundee United would have liked.

“He’s contracted here until the end of next season and we were hoping this loan move would get him going – and any other loan move in the next couple of weeks would be along the same line.

“There’s interest from clubs north and south of the border.”
