Captain Scott Dann is wanted by Crystal Palace. If an acceptable bid comes in for him, would you sell to reduce the club’s losses? Or would you look elsewhere within the squad?

SCOTT Dann started his Rovers career with a lot of criticism and many would have been happy to see him leave. It is testimony to the player that he has changed many opinions which were justified and rigid.

There are still elements to his game lacking but it would be bad business to allow him to leave for a fraction of the fee we paid for him.

I struggle to think of another player who could naturally take on the captaincy.

I would first and foremost look to release players such as Leon Best and Dickson Etuhu, who are costing a lot of money and having no impact on the pitch.

KELVIN WILKINS

TO sell Scott Dann to reduce the deficit would be a drop in the ocean of debt.

And given Dann has taken his last two clubs down, and taking into account Rovers’ current position, stranger things have happened than the club he may join swapping places with us come May.

Sadly the players who are surplus to requirements are players on massive salaries whom no club would pay a fee for, nor take on the wage bill.

Dann is decent – but at this level. He may need someone to remind him how much he struggled in the Premier League last time.

SIMON SMITH

OBVIOUSLY there’s a lot of dead weight at Rovers that I would rather discard, but nobody would be daft enough to take it off us.

Losing Scott Dann would be a blow despite him never really quite living up to expectations.

At least we have Matt Kilgallon waiting in the wings to partner Grant Hanley.

Eventually the club’s financial debt is going to mean we have to sell some of our better players and I would rather see Dann go than Jordan Rhodes.

What a pity we are haemorrhaging money to players who often aren’t even in the squad.

If Rhodes is not for sale then Dann is also not for sale............Club should seal this options of lossing key players, Dann know how hard he earn captain of the club and he playes week in and week out continusley with calm and control.

If we sell Dann the effect will be bad for example " he took one game OFF(wigen game this season), Hanley got a Red card with captain tag and we start loosing the points....."

Dann is very consistant and always keep the accuray, sharpness in ground and build the team. I think he earn rovers fans now " Super Dann "

I wouldn't sell Dann, he's formed an excellent partnership with Hanley. They showed against City that there is no reason why they cannot do well in the Premiership. Going to another relegated club isn't an option for him, I don't think he will want to leave the present Rovers team.

There is nothing coming from the club that says we have to sell to cut the debts, it's all about cutting wages and reducing the day to day costs of running the club. I believe the useless Murphy is still receiving his massive pound of flesh every month.

As everybody says we have a lot of big wage earners who are very ordinary players, no other club will want them. Unfortunately I believe it will be a long process waiting for contracts to expire.

Realistically it depends on the wage bill. We will struggle to get rid of Best, Orr and Etuhu. Others like Olsson and Marrow aren't going to reduce the wage much so players like Dann are vulnerable.

If we did sell we would be way too short in the centre of defence so another body would need to come in and I suspect it will depend on who we could get.

Overall I wouldn't rule it out entirely but we should probably stick with him until at least the summer.

As ever, the power, if not the decision, lies with the player and his agent. If Dann wants to go then a move will be engineered but the price would need to reflect what we paid for him.
On the pitch, he is a reasonable Championship centre half but certainly not indispensible.

on the subject of scott Dann if clubs come calling with offers such as the 2.5 million palace put in then they can forget it,we paid 6 and it may have been over the odds although he is a capable defender and l would not take a penny less than the 6 mill we paid for him,,we are not that desperate as some may like to think, get rid of etuhu, campbell, and anyone picking up silly money for doing nothing,,we may have to blood some youth and rely on hunger and desire,,

What it boils down to is whether a player wants to leave or the club wants / needs to sell. The latter is in Venky's hands. As for the player he doesn't need advice form me - but here it is anyway. If you're ambitious to play in the PL and as good as we think you are then turn down Palace. It's January, come June, even with you, chances are they will be back in the Championship. If they are then you're back to square one. If they survive then you'll probably get a chance at a better club - who knows it may even be us!

The only feasible way our club can survive financial melt down is to get back in the Premier league as soon as possible and we require all our experienced players to be on top form to do that.We actually require strengthening in defence as we still allow teams like Birmingham to knock 3 goals in.

Agree that players/agents have the power now but if Dann doesn't want to go I would keep him at the club. If Robbo stays and plays he could take over the captaincy role so no problem there but I wonder if Robbo was being put in the shop window against man city and there might be attempts to shift him on (I hope not). Personally I would try to negotiate Best, Etuhu, and Orr out of the club, pay them up now and get shut one way or the other, hopefully at a slight cost saving in the longer term. A couple of weeks ago I would have added DJ to that list but I thought he has not been too bad on his last couple of appearances. Even if Best et al dig their feet in and won't accept anything less than their full contract, I would still get them off the books and take the debt now. What's another few mill?
