DJ CAMPBELL made his first appearance for Blackburn Rovers since his arrest and subsequent bail by police probing spot-fixing allegations in football matches.

The striker, who has not been charged, had a first-half effort cleared off the line and saw a strong appeal for a penalty turned down after the break in yesterday’s 2-1 win at Leeds United.

Campbell, whose previous appearance for Rovers was the 0-0 draw at QPR on December 7, played for 65 minutes before being replaced by Josh King.

Rovers boss Bowyer was pleased by the effort Campbell and his strike partners – and goalscorers – Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes put in.

Bowyer said: “Their work rate was unbelievable. They all worked tirelessly.”

Bowyer would not be drawn on the Campbell situation directly.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Blackpool striker was one four players on the books of football clubs arrested and bailed by National Crime Agency officers – the others being Oldham Athletic’s Cristian Montano and Tranmere Rovers duo Ian Goodison and Akpo Sodje.

Jamaican international Goodison, who is currently out injured, and Sodje have not played since – although Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore has confirmed they will be considered for selection – while Montano has been sacked by Oldham.
