Clitheroe 1 Warrington Town 0

A disputed penalty seven minutes from time saw Clitheroe make up for their Boxing Day derby loss to Padiham as they beat Warrington Town 1-0 at Shawbridge.

Substitute Ash Ruane was judged to have pushed Clitheroe's Ross Dent in the back inside the area, and although Josh Ollerenshaw got down superbly to deny Danny Wilkins from the resulting spot kick, the taker reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.

The second half had been largely a scrappy affair, with the referee's whistle far too frequent, and the visitors were also reduced to 10 men in injury time when Peter Dogan saw red for his reaction to a protest over a foul.

Warrington had started well and keeper Adam Reid saved well from both David Mannix and Scott Metcalfe, while at the other end the Blues struggled to keep their composure in the final third of the field.

Simon Garner’s men were better after the break and Wilkins forced a good save out of former Clitheroe keeper Ollerenshaw just after the restart.

They looked to ramp up the pace and that pressure finally told when Ruane bundled Dent over after a series of corners and although Wilkins was initially foiled from the spot, his follow up gave the Blues all three points.
