Star Trippier happy with encouraging defensive display

Lancashire Telegraph: Kieran Trippier Kieran Trippier

KIERAN Tripper says a goalless draw at Wigan Athletic demonstrated Burnley’s defensive resolve.

The Clarets earned their 10th Championship clean sheet of the season and although it wasn’t enough to keep them in the top two in the last game of 2013, the right back says they came through a test of character against a side who have shown early improvements under new manager Uwe Rosler.

“We were disappointed with the result at Middlesbrough and to bounce back at Wigan, it’s not an easy place to come but we’ve done well,” said the 23-year-old.

“I thought it was a great defensive performance.

“I thought we started brightly and had a few opportunities then Chris McCann had a header cleared off the line by myself.

“That’s my job, if it (the corner) goes over my head then I just retreat back onto the post. It just fell to me and I cleared it.

“I think it’s a great point. It’s a fair result and the clean sheet is the most important thing.

“Defensively we’re really happy with a point.

But Trippier says attention will immediately switch to the New Year’s Day fixture at home to Huddersfield to ensure the Clarets start 2014 on a winning note, and make amends for the 2-1 reverse at the John Smith's Stadium last month.

"We'll review the performance (at Wigan) and then we'll recharge and regroup and get ready to go again for Wednesday," he said.

"The defeat at Huddersfield is gone now and we take it game by game.

"The defeat at Middlesbrough was gone the next day and it will be the same again as we look ahead to Wednesday."

Why should he leave us when we don't desperately need the cash and we are in the mix. Rhodes on the other hand...

You have balls posting your comments on here especially when your own team/club are what they are! You not calling for your managers head like many of the other no-dads?

It's a mistake to try and reason with that deeply ignorant know-nowt. Point out his manifold malfunctions all you like but to assume he has anything worth contributing lends him a modicum of respectability he is far from deserving.
