BLACKBURN boss Gary Bowyer says the disappointment some fans felt after the 0-0 home draw with Sheffield Wednesday should not overshadow the progress his side have made under his leadership.

Bowyer is bidding to transform Rovers from a team that last season finished just four points above the relegation places into one which can challenge for promotion.

The stalemate with Wednesday moved Rovers – ahead of the evening kick-offs – up to 10th and within three points of the play-off places.

But the fact that their team were unable to stretch their winning run to three matches led to a smattering of supporters booing at the final whistle.

Bowyer said: “The progress we are making is decent.

“That’s six out of the last nine games we have kept a clean sheet and we are now unbeaten in four.

“There’s a chorus of boos around the ground which I can’t quite understand.

“We have to remember where we have come from, where we are now and how much further we can go.”

Struggling Wednesday, under the stewardship of caretaker manager Stuart Gray, forced Simon Eastwood into two good saves.

But it was Rovers who created and wasted the best chances of the match.

Bowyer said: “Points are very hard to come by and we have to respect the point today.

“Sheffield Wednesday are fighting for their lives and are fighting to get Stuart Gray the job – and on that evidence they should give it to him.

“We created some good chances – not enough chances – but we just weren’t ruthless enough in front of goal.

“But I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating those chances.”

Rovers are now unbeaten in five games at Ewood Park.

But you have to go back to August and to the thumping 4-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers for the last time they won at home by more than a one-goal margin.

Bowyer said: “A lot of teams are coming here and paying us a lot of respect – and that’s a compliment to our group.

“We are finding teams are coming here with different formations to what they usually play in a bid to stop us from playing.

“First and foremost you always try and win the game but if you can’t get the three points then you definitely get the one.”

Chris Taylor was stretchered off wearing a neck brace but Bowyer said the midfielder ‘was back on his feet’ after the match.

Taylor will now be monitored over the next 24 hours.
