GEORGE Bowerman’s goal gave Accrington Stanley a point in their League Two fixture at home to York City.

Former Stanley loanee Wes Fletcher had put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot, but Bowerman levelled just before half time.

Stanley named 19-year-old Andrew Dawber in goal after loan keeper Marcus Bettinelli was recalled by Fulham.

The Reds almost went ahead on the half hour mark when Aaron McCarey made a good save to keep out James Gray’s header, but York were ahead in the 35th minute.

Former Burnley striker Fletcher, who once had a loan spell at Stanley, scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Dean Winnard in the box.

Bowerman put Stanley back on level terms on the stroke of half time, however, as he turned home from close range after Piero Mingoia’s cross had caused the York defence problems.

Stanley looked for a winner in the second half, but the game ended all square.
