YORK City boss Nigel Worthington has urged his side to play to the final whistle against stoppage time specialists Accrington Stanley this afternoon.

The Reds struck twice in stoppage time to secure a 3-2 win away at Mansfield Town on Saturday and Worthington is well aware of the late threat that James Beattie’s side carry.

Indeed Stanley have scored four times in stoppage time this season collecting six points in the process, which all means the Reds enter today’s clash two points and four places better off than Worthington’s men.

The York boss said: “Accrington have picked up and are doing quite well so it’s game on.

“They scored a lot of late goals last season, including one against us with almost the last kick of the game.

“We know they have got that in their make-up, which shows they have got spirit so we need to do what we can do and make sure we concentrate all the way through to the final whistle.”

Midfielder Elliott Whitehouse could return to York’s starting XI having missed out during the draw against Oxford with Ryan Brobbel preferred as the fifth permitted loan player at the weekend.

“Whoever is left out will just need to keep working hard to force their way back in,” added the York manager.
