GARY Bowyer hailed Jordan Rhodes as ‘unbelievable’ after the star striker set Blackburn Rovers on their way to a vital 3-2 home victory over Millwall on Saturday.

After four games without a goal at Ewood Park top-scorer Rhodes ended the run in style with a superb 22nd-minute strike which took his tally for the term up to 12.

Rovers boss Bowyer: “It was an outstanding finish. He had a lot to do himself to create it and fair play to him, his finish was unbelievable. “Then again he is an unbelievable striker.”

Martyn Waghorn ensured Millwall were level at the break.

Rovers regained the lead when Ben Marshall headed in a Tommy Spurr cross and they went further in front through David Dunn before Steve Morison netted late on to set up a grandstand finish.

It was Marshall’s first goal for Rovers and it came hot on the heels of his best performance for the club following his big money summer move.

Bowyer, who paid £1m for the former England U21s international, said: “It was a fantastic header from a great Tommy Spurr cross. That should fill him with confidence even more.

“We know he has talent and know he wants to succeed.”

Bowyer conceded his side did not play well against the Lions.

But he felt, whatever their performance, it was important to build on the morale-boosting 0-0 draw at QPR with a win.

Bowyer said: “We spoke about backing up that great point and performance at QPR. That was the main thing, especially in the conditions, which weren’t great.

“I’m pleased with the resilience. We’re a young team who are gaining in confidence and belief and that should push us on.”
