SNOOKER star Chris Norbury is targeting a Chinese adventure when he returns to the baize this week.

Norbury, who beat world number 24 Martin Gould in the UK Championships earlier this month on his way to the second round, is in action in Barnsley competing in qualifying for the German Masters against Anthony McGill today and the World Open on Friday when he faces Welsh wizard Mark Williams.

And the Accrington potter is particularly keen on a place in the main draw of the World Open with the final stages played in China.

“I have never been to China so it would be great to go there,” said Norbury who is currently ranked at 112 in the world but is expected to rise to the brink of the top 100 when the new rankings are released.

Norbury admits the chance to play in China intrigues him with snooker having enjoyed a boom in Asia over the last 10 years.

He added: “I have heard a few things from other players about the way the sport is over there and I would love to see it for myself.

It would be a great opportunity to play out there and just see how snooker has developed in China. I would love that chance.”

But Norbury admits he would be equally satisfied with a place in the main draw of the German Masters – a tournament he reached the first round proper of in 2009.

He added: “It would be good to reach the main draw of the German Masters as well. They are both big tournaments and I want the chance to test myself against some of the better players.”

But he must overturn his result against McGill from the UK Championships after he exited York thanks to a 6-0 whitewash.

The 27-year-old is also targeting a place in next year’s World Championships where he will be bidding to make his debut at the Crucible.

“The Worlds is the next really big aim,” admitted Norbury. “It is the biggest tournament there is and it is always my goal to reach the main draw there. Qualifying isn’t until April but hopefully I can get into form and we will see what happens.”
