FORMER Blackburn Rovers favourite Morten Gamst Pedersen would be ‘very sad’ if the spot-fixing allegations surrounding his old team-mate DJ Campbell prove to be true.

And Pedersen has revealed he never encountered any form of fixing in football during his nine-year stay at Ewood Park between 2004 and 2013.

“It is very sad if there is anything in this,” said the Norwegian international, who made 349 appearances and scored 47 goals for Rovers before joining Turkish side Karabukspor in August.

“It’s never something I’ve been involved in or felt that others around me have been involved in.

“You get a small shock when you hear about things like that.”

Pedersen and Campbell were Rovers team-mates last season.

Campbell joined the club on an initial loan from QPR in February before making the move permanent in July.

On Sunday Campbell was among six people – four of them footballers – who were arrested by police probing spot-fixing allegations in football matches.

Campbell was quizzed by National Crime Agency officers before being released on bail until April 2014.

The 32-year-old striker did not attend training at Rovers’ Brockhall base yesterday.

Talks over Campbell’s future did continue, however, between his representatives and the club and its lawyers.

Rovers were last night also in contact with the Football Association and the Football League.

It was reported yesterday that the FA could ban Campbell and the three other footballers currently on the books of clubs that were arrested – Oldham Athletic’s Cristian Montano and Tranmere Rovers duo Ian Goodison and Akpo Sodje – until the National Crime Agency investigation has run its course.

But when contacted by the Lancashire Telegraph, an FA spokesperson said: “We’re not making any comment at this time.”

Rovers, as a club, have not offered any further comment.

But manager Gary Bowyer has spoken for the first time since Campbell was arrested.

The Rovers boss, whose side entertain Millwall on Saturday, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “All we can do is control what we can control – we’ve said that time and again at our football club.

“And that’s the message again. We’ll release a statement when we know more ourselves.

“But for now we’ve got to back up what was a great performance and a great result at QPR on Saturday against Millwall this weekend.”

Neither Campbell nor his representatives could be contacted.

Bowyer also confirmed Rudy Gestede should be fit to face Millwall.

The on-loan forward missed the 0-0 draw with high-flying QPR with a minor leg injury.

But Gestede trained on Monday, underwent physio work yesterday and assured Bowyer he will be ready to take on the Lions.

Meanwhile, it is understood there is nothing in reports linking Rovers with Crewe Alexandra full-back Matt Tootle.
