Burnley boss Dyche scoffs at 'mini slump' suggestions as Clarets reclaim top spot

Lancashire Telegraph: Sean Dyche Sean Dyche

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche said his side were deserving of the win which took them back to the Championship summit.

The Clarets were knocked off top spot last weekend following only their second league defeat of the season, at Huddersfield Town.

But Michael Kightly's winner put Burnley back in first place, leading the way over QPR on goal difference following their goalless draw at home to Blackburn Rovers, while previous leaders Leicester suffered a 3-1 defeat at Brighton.

It was Burnley's first win in six league games, and Dyche said: "People have been saying we are on a mini slump.

"Going from first to third back to first is a pretty impressive mini slump and certainly the best I've been on!

"You don't get everything your own way in this league, but in most of the game's we've drawn we've been pretty dominant. We just had one blip at Huddersfield when we didn't play well.

"We know when we play well we can beat teams, but it's the results in games when you are not at your best that are important over a Championship season.

"Today we found a way to win and that's an important attribute to have."

I will be very releived whern Marney comes back - Stock is just not up to the job - Passes going astray - and sucessfull passes not helping with the flow and stopping our attacking flair - Scraped through today - Marney must be fit next week and we have a chance v Leicester - A pivotal game which I would gladly take a point from now - If marney back and everyone is on their game and we magic a win - then what a position we would be in - Great win though and back to the top!!

Slipping down the table we seemed to have gone top of the table!
Mind you wovers wrestlers did do us a favour by not allowing QPR to play.
Rather be the team that others feel they need to defend against, than the team that feels they need to defend at all costs fair or foul, to get a result.

That's a great 3 points with the other results in our favour. Not been many one nil for us so far this season, some way to go to equal the at least half a dozen games qpr have won by 1 - 0. I'l be more than happy for us to win the next few games with this score line.
Of course I want us to win every game or at least draw if we cannot win, but I was beginning to get a little concerned that we were going out to protect the point and nick a win rather than go out to win but settle for a draw if we couldn't. Maybe this was the kick up the backside the players got at half time by the magnificent Sean Dyche. I would much rather have 2 wins and a loss than 1 win and 2 draws. This league is going to be even tighter than last season with the way it is going, and it was a close run thing for many last season.
Match of the day next Saturday so hopefully we are back to the game that took us to the top in the first place. A good time for qpr to be playing a Blackpool team whose manager seems bent on wrecking. Fortunately we too play them soon after and I hope Ince is still self destructing when they come here, though I wouldn't be surprised if he is sacked for the way he is handling himself and his team lately.
No mini slump here, just a need to press the reset button.

Excellent comments No Nay Never. And Leicester seem to have lost a little of their confidence, and yesterday's 3-1 reversal won't have helped. Marney back and Ings getting back fitness may yield 4 or even 6 points.

Funny how you don't mention that now we have beaten QPR, Reading and Derby out of the top six but more mportantly consistently beat the sh.it sides you set of inbred neanderthal pansies keep losing to. I love how much you HATE us being top of the league. It makes me warm and fuzzy inside.[/p]
What, you mean like Bournemouth? Lets see where you are in a month, then if you are still top, I will hold my hand up, you were right and everyone has been bluffed by your sh1tness and not sussed you out like I have.[/p]
Come on now; stop this. You've been advised by well-meaning people to get some help and the best thing you could do is to take this advice. Your desperation is truly sad to see and no-one likes to be forced to be made aware of it like this. I've tried ignoring it but it's time we all stood up and said 'no more'. For the last time....GET SOME HELP. Please.[/p]
How many points clear at the top are you now? must be into double figures by now. Oh, oh dear, just hanging on to top spot by your little fingernail on one hand, after beating the new Brazil 1-0 at home. Biggin yersels up again. I must say, I am waiting for the latest train wreck with morbid curiosity. I don't want it to happen, but its inevitable that the finish to this season will resemble devon locke FakeVilla_MTCabinet

Mmm interesting how much in denial wovers fans really are, Burnley are where they are on their own merit, oh how they laughed when we were one game away from relegation.
We've battled through some tough times and learnt how to compete on a limited budget. Where as wovers have had money thrown at them, and now facing financial melt down. chaos and crisis reign at deadwood, clueless at every level in the club.
Now its our time to laugh and mock as they sink.
Yes we may not have a big gates, but we've learnt cut our cloth accordingly, a win is a win however you try and dress it up.
4 years since FFP announced, and done nothing to fall in line with it, you deserve everything you get.

35 years of domination..........
. Ha,ha,ha. We haven't beaten you in those years correct....... But domination........ Do me a favour. Our clubs didn't play each other for 20 of those years........ Go on take your socks and shoes off and count them. Where do you and your illiterate mates get the 10,000 crowd from. Oh yeah, just remembered, you can't read. Last time I looked in the paper the crowd was given at just under 11,500. Not a great attendance I admit but just watch if your all star team lose the next couple and your lot slope off to McDonalds (well you must be sick of chicken by now). Your gates will soon be on a par with ours...... If not less. As for us being interbreds, I wouldn't go shouting about your new claim to fame. Blackburn being the only town in the country where if a crime is committed, the police don't worry too much about forensic testing of suspects........ WHY I hear you ask......... Because everyone in that godforsaken town has the same D.N.A.

Come on numb nuts........... Even you must be able to work out that it's not the amount of possession that wins a game. It's what you do whilst you have possession ........... Then again you probably can't. Poor deluded pond life :)

Slipping down the table we seemed to have gone top of the table!
Mind you wovers wrestlers did do us a favour by not allowing QPR to play.
Rather be the team that others feel they need to defend against, than the team that feels they need to defend at all costs fair or foul, to get a result.
I think burnley will need to defend at all costs next week

If it wasn't a slump Dyche what the hell was it then. And for goodness sake go and buy yourself a bottle of Buttercup Syrup.
Glass half full or empty? One defeat in 15 is a better statistic for me. 5 games without a win but only 1 defeat in that "slump". If that's a dip in form then I'll take it any day.

I can't understand why Rovers fans (other than the decent ones making valid comments) keep coming onto Burnley stories and saying the things they do. Despite our small squad we are top of the league and have been for 9 of the last 10 weeks. ANYONE would be proud of that.
We don't get big gates. Who cares??? The ones who do turn up make enough noise for 20k. Rovers fans seem to be obsessed with our gates without breaking any records at there own ground.
There is constant harping on about losing Ings/Vokes/Trippier in January without even a thought to the fact that Rhodes could easily be on his way then.
We don't have the crippling debts that Rovers have. We are, by and large, financially solvent.
We are not faced with a transfer embargo.
We are not in the bottom half of the league.
We don't have to virtually give away tickets to get people into the ground.
We have owners who care about the club.
We have a top manager who knows what he is doing.
What do Rovers fans really think they are doing when trying to make fun of a club that is doing so much better than their own on every level you can think of?
If their only idea of superiority is scraping an extra 1500/2000 per game from a town 50% bigger than Burnley then they are truly sad indeed.
Apologies to the decent Rovers posters of course.
