OATHEY Jones showed all the credentials of a champion when the Blackburn teenager stopped his latest opponent at the weekend.
Oathey, 13, who was a national schoolboy champion last year, stopped the talented Mitch Thorne from Southampton in the third and final round of their 49kg clash at Gemini ABC in Liverpool.
Thorne arrived in the North West with a big reputation having won the southern title.
But Oathey, who boxes out of Roche Boxing Club in Burnley, underlined his talents – he dominating the first round and have an even second round, floored Thorne in the third, giving the referee no option but to stop the contest.
It should have been a winning double for Brian Roche’s fighters but Aqib Mushtaq, 15, from Burnley controversially lost to Charlie Connors from host club Gemini ABC.
