Hyde 1 Nelson 2

Goals from Paddy Furey and Louis Percival matched with some resolute defending meant that Nelson Development Squad continued their excellent unbeaten away record.

On a perfect evening for football and a pitch which would usually suit their flowing passing, Nelson struggled to get the ball down in the first half as Hyde began well. Hyde’s main threat came in the form of Hyde first team player Jake Pollard, the tricky winger often creating chances that luckily for Nelson were squandered.

And it was no surprise when Hyde took the lead in the 20th mark when Perry Jepson crudely brought down a Hyde player in the box and the penalty was converted to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break.

The second half was a completely different story. Nelson, managed by Sam Heap (above) came out after the break with the completely different mindset.

Following a period of attractive football Nelson found their equaliser. In the 54th minute and following intricate play from Sam Charlesworth and Toby Sudderick, Perry Jepson sent Louis Percival into the clear, Percival drove into the Hyde box before squaring the ball to Furey who slammed the ball home from 15 yards.

Nelson winner came on the 71st minute. Substitute Sam Wixted released Furey down the left hand flank whose inch perfect ball was tucked away by Percival from 8 yards out.

“Every single member of the squad contributed to the win, a real team effort I’m so proud of the lads and happy to keep our away form going” said coach Heap after the game.
