Goals were at a premium in the Blackburn Sunday League division one with just seven goals scored in three matches in the top flight.

New Gardeners came out on top against Beehive in a very evenly fought contest, eventually winning 2-0 thaks to goals from Davies and Berry, after Cotton had missed a penalty for Beehive.

Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s narrowly beat Longshaw 2-1 victory thanks to a double strike from Gary Holt while Ash Watson scored for Longshaw.

League leaders Clifton extended their lead at the top with a 2-0 win over a very resilient AMT Lawyers with goals from Smith and Coote.

In Division 2, Royal Oak extended their lead at the top with a convincing 5-0 victory over Darwen Victoria while JQ Plumbing put themselves level on points with Whinney Hill as both teams shared the same score line 1-1 against Rishton Roebuck and Crown Paints respectively. The Anchor ran out easy 7-1 winners against Black Bull, while Stanhill WMC carried on their revival with an excellent 5-1 win away at Station Helmshore.

Match of the day in Division 3 was Brown Cow and Whinney Hill Colts with the Altham side coming back from a goal down to win 2-1 with goals from Jones, and Taylor, after Carl Fletcher had put Brown Cow ahead. Helmshore Harriers top the table on goal difference after with a 5-1 win over Gastec Celtic. Green Squirrel pulled off a surprise result with a 4-2 victory over high flying Brown Cow Olympic.

King Edward and Golden Cup drew 4-4 draw, while Rishton Rangers came out on top 5-4 against Wellington in a nine-goal thriller.
