WITH just a point separating Huncoat United and Rishton United towards the top of the East Lancashire Football Alliance Under 10s Blue Division, Sunday’s clash was always going to be a close encounter – and so it proved.

And after battling out a 2-2 draw at Accrington Cricket Club, the real winners on the day were Readstone Juniors who extended their lead at the top of the table seven points after they enjoyed 14-1 victory over Rossendale United Lads.

Second-placed Huncoat began the day five points behind leaders Readstone with Rishton a point and a place further behind.

It was Huncoat who broke the deadlock first at Thorneyholme Road but Rishton were not to be outdone as they battle back to take a share of the spoils.

Readstone and Huncoat remain the only two unbeaten teams in the division.

There were also intriguing top of the table clashes in the Under 11s Green Division and Under 12s Yellow Division and both had differing outcomes.

In the Under 11s Green, leaders Mill Hill saw their lead cut to just a point as the lost 2-1 at home to Fulledge Colts – the Blackburn team’s first defeat of the season.

Second-placed Rossendale Valley Wasps took full advantage as they beat Blue Star Aces 6-3.

In the Under 12s Yellow Division, leaders Langho Blue hosted second-placed Fulledge Colts Red with just two points separating them at the summit.

But that lead was stretched to five points as unbeaten Langho ran out convincing 7-0 winners after condeming Fulledge to their third defeat of the season.

In the Under 14s Red Division, Mill Hill made it six wins from eight as they won 4-0 at Lammack Juniors.

The only other game in the division saw Belvedere beat bottom of the table Badgers 4-0.

Athletico Knuzden made it seven wins out of seven in the Under 15s Red division as they beat Huncoat United 4-1.

Second-placed Lammack Juniors beat Blackburn Eagles Red 4-0.

In the older age groups, Under 18s Red leaders Padiham came out on top in a seven goal thriller at Langho Juniors, eventually winning 4-3 while second-placd Whalley slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Lammack Juniors Black.

And in the Under 18s Yellow divison, top of the table Lammack Juniors Red won 4-1 at Mellor.
