Burnley striker Danny Ings was an unused substitute for England Under 21s in their 3-0 win over Finland in Milton Keynes.
The Clarets striker, aged 21, was hoping to win his second cap for Gareth Southgate's side in the European Championship qualifier but did not get on the pitch as a Saido Berahino double and a Michael Keane goal gave England the points.
Patrick O'Shaughnessy was sent off for the visitors as England extended their lead at the top of the group.
Ings, who has scored 10 league goals this season to fire Burnley to the top of the Championship, will hope to be involved when England host San Marino in Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.
