THE stars of the 2013 Foster’s Lancashire League season were honoured at an awards night in Fence.

Around 200 people gathered at the Fence Gate hotel for the annual event, with Accrington celebrating their victory in the Lancashire League this year.

Burnley were the winners of the Worsley Cup and their star Qasim Ali was the winner of the league’s senior batting award for 2013.

Ramsbottom’s Jon Fielding was the winner of the senior bowling award, retaining the title from 2012, while team-mate Tom Parton took the wicket-keeping prize.

It was one of four awards on the night for Parton, who claimed the Milton Lord Memorial Trophy as the under 23s player of the year.

The Ramsbottom ace was also under 23s player of the month for July and shared a Lancashire Telegraph tankard with Church’s Sam Tucker for the best wicket-keeping performance.

The other Telegraph tankards went to Todmorden’s Simon Newbitt for the best batting performance, and Rishton’s Kelly Mall for the best bowling display.

The under 23s batting award went to Lowerhouse’s Jonny Whitehead, who also received the honour in 2012, while Enfield’s Hassan Fazal won the under 23s bowling award.

Accrington’s Simon Hanson took the under 23 award for April, May and June, while Church’s Lloyd Aspin won it for August and September.

The Bill Harrison Trophy for the best individual performance at under 23s level went to Nelson’s Russell Bradley. Duncan Warburton was the umpire of the year, with last year’s winner Ken Fergusson taking the runner up spot.

Enfield and Rishton shared the scoreboard award, while Accrington retained the Joe Collier Trophy for the most sporting team.

Colne’s Matt Walker was the recipient of a new award in memory of Lancashire League stalwart and respected umpire Alick Ormerod, who passed away earlier this year. The award recognised the best captain, voted for by umpires.

Three players were also recognised for scoring 15,000 runs or more.

Lowerhouse’s Chris Bleazard reached the landmark during 2013, while East Lancashire’s Dave Pearson and Haslingden’s Michael Ingham had also previously passed the milestone.

Ramsbottom won the Second XI title with Nelson winning the Third XI crown and also securing the Lancashire Telegraph Junior Cup victory.

Lowerhouse triumphed in the Moorhouses Brewery Twenty20 competition.
