BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is out to arm himself with at least one loan signing before the hectic run-in to Christmas.

The Clarets face a run of nine games between now and the January transfer window, while the option to make emergency loan signings will cease on November 28.

That leaves Dyche with just two weeks to strengthen his table topping squad.

And the Championship manager of the month admitted the process of trying to make additions was an ongoing one.

“The situation is the same. It’s not all down to funds, it’s the alignment of players.

“Funds help but they don’t guarantee anything.

“It’s more the alignment of situations that suit us, the other club and the player,” said Dyche.

He was linked with Connor Wickham but Sunderland were believed to have a to have concerns about how much game time the striker would get given the fruitful partnership of Sam Vokes and Danny Ings – despite the duo being the club’s only recognised senior centre forwards.

“We’ve been looking anyway, never more so than now because we feel we do need some support,” he continued.

“It is fair to say that it accelerates when you have got that closing of a window and then a re-opening scenario.

“We have a lot of games coming up before Christmas.

“There’s no evidence to suggest that anyone will get injured, but you’ve got to cover your bases.”

Dyche is determined to give his side every chance of remaining in pole position, after going into a second international break top of the Championship, and admitted if they are able to push the button on an incoming loan, they will.

However, he reiterated the importance of quality over quantity and insisted he would avoid the temptation of making signings for the sake of a boost to numbers.

“The player side of things is a constant. I’ve been at a couple of games this week and we’re always monitoring players for now and for in the future because we’ve got to be aware of what comes next as well as what we’re trying to achieve now,” he said.

“But the thirst for signings has to be tempered by still being the right signing. It’s still go to be right whichever way you look at it,” he said.

“We certainly haven’t got the resources to get three wrong, so therefore if we’ve got probably one - maybe two - but probably one (signing) then it’s got to be right.

“We’re not in a position to make three or four signings until we get the right one. Some clubs are but we’re not.

“You’ve seen the market and you’ve seen the clubs who are signing players constantly, we’re just not in that position so we have to use our resources wisely and align players as best as we can.

“We continue the work we do, the network is always open and the phone is always on, so we’ll try to align who we think is appropriate.”
