4:47pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Sport
THE Blackburn With Darwen Snooker League kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday) with 6 new teams and, for the first time ever Divisional sponsors.
The first division is now the Premier Office Supplies Division 1 and the second division Blackburn Mill Hill Engineering Division 2.
The sponsorship deals will enable the league to develop the website further and hopefully attract more and more players.
League Secretary Shaun Pendlebury said: “The response this year has been tremendous, especially from the clubs with Longshaw Sports & Social Club entering 2 teams and Orchard WMC returning to the League.
VIP Snooker in the town centre have also entered 2 teams.
“We are also re-introducing the Young Player Of The Year Award in a bid to encourage more and more youngsters to take up the game.”
There is no denying that the quality players are being attracted to the league and this season will see such stalwarts of the local game as Frank Jex and Lee Whittle, along with Tommy Hannan turning out for Longshaw.
Opening night in Division Two pits the superstars of Longshaw B against new kids on the block Orchard while the First Division action sees defending champions Fox & Hounds begin their title defence against Blackburn Golf Club. Danny Hogan Cup Winners Greenfield face off against the always strong Punch Hotel.
Full details of all the opening night games are available on the League Website which can be found by logging on to: www.bwdsl.leaguerepublic.com.
