Wakefield 2 Ramsbottom United 3
7:46am Monday 14th October 2013 in Sport
JON Robinson’s strike 12 minutes from time secured Ramsbottom United’s second win on the road and left Wakefield still searching for their first home victory.
The Rams twice lead through goals from Lee Gaskell and Phillip Dean only to be pegged back by Wakefield on each occasion.
The Rams controlled the game from start to finish and had the ball in the net eight times – but only three of them were considered legitimate by the match officials.
However a couple of pieces of sloppy defending and the inability to avoid straying offside had them in danger of surrendering the three points that were always there for the asking.
Gaskell made the breakthrough in the 32nd minute after Dominic Smalley and Jordan Hulme had combined only for Robert Boardman to level on the stroke of half time. The Rams regained the lead in the 62nd minute when Smalley burst clear down the left and cross for Dean to fire home from close range.
But a rare venture into the Rams half of the field resulted in another unexpected equaliser for the home side when Boardman curled home a free kick.
With time ticking away, the Rams nudged in front again and this time they managed to stay there when Robinson beat the offside trap to flick in a cross from Dean.
